SALAAM

While researching, I couldn't help but notice that reptition, symmetry, geometric shapes and designs are prevalent throughout Arab and Islamic art. Using these characteristics, I decided to create a tesselated shape that can interlock to create a repeat pattern. I also wanted my garment to exude a sense of peace and serenity, which is important to the Islamic faith and is a major part of the Qur'an, so I changed my color palette to be a softer, muted selection of colors. Using white and gray, I played with the opacity of each acrylic piece and connected them with gold jumprings. Gold and brass, which is used throughout Islamic art, was an important part of my piece, so along with the jumprings, I used gold chain to connect everything together.
